The Irvine accounting firm of Wright Ford Young & Co. gives 1% of its gross revenues to local charities with the goal of giving away $1 million by 2018.
The seven-partner firm, founded in 1973, started the giving program in 2006, says partner Jeff Myers. The contributions continue despite the impact of the recession on revenues.
The 50 non-partner employees decide which charities receive the money, he adds.
Among the recipients:
- Alzheimer’s Association Orange County Chapter
- Someone Cares Soup Kitchen
- Center for Hope & Healing
- Ability First
- Meals on Wheels
- Natalie Turner Foundation
- Save Our Youth
“The idea came up at a partnership meeting,” Myers says. “Many of us are Christians, and one suggested we give half-a-percent of topline revenues to charity. Another say 1% and that’s what we set.
“Our plan is to set up a private foundation and contribute more than $1 million to local charities by 2018,” he says.

Very nice. Particularly so given the confiscatory tax policies of our government. Be careful and investigate charities before you contribute.
