Dispensing Solutions Inc. in Santa Ana has acquired DRx Pharmaceutical Consultants Inc. in Lake Forest, Ill., from Wellinx Inc.

The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, will expand DSI’s production capacity and increase its flexibility for serving customers, the company said.

DSI has a system for medical practices to dispense prescription medications, including storage, inventory and information management.

The transaction is DSI’s second acquisition in the past year, making it the largest company in the prepackaged drug industry. DSI supports thousands of doctors’ offices in 44 states that dispense prescriptions to their patients.

The DRx deal alone doubles DSI’s presence in the physican market, said DSI Chairman and CEO Guy Bryant, chairman and CEO of DSI, which is owned by HealthEdge Investment Partners LLC, a private equity firm founded in 2005 that focuses exclusively on the healthcare industry.

“DSI is a leader in the repackaging and dispensing business and shares our commitment to providing high quality service. We are confident that our DRx customers will be very pleased with the DSI team,” Wellinx CFO Richard Jones said in a prepared statement.
