Why do people start businesses?

Brad Sugars, speaker, book author, business coach and owner of ActionCoach, got interesting results to a poll on his blog.

He asked his visitors why they started a business. Here are the results:

In this group, wanting to fulfill personal goals edged out wanting to be the boss. I don’t know if it’s amusing or sad that 1.3% don’t know why they started their business.

What do you think?

most people become self employed as a last result. its the one place they fit in, their own place. i loathe authority in its many forms and being self employed has reduced the amount of time I need to devote to workplace politics, none.
