Michael Gerber, often called “the world’s number one small-business guru” will speak from 10 a.m. to noon
Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Chapman University.
The event, open to the public, is a joint project of the Orange County chapter of SCORE and the Social Enterprise Institute in Irvine. Cost is $30 is you click here and sign up online. It’s $40 at the door, Room 404 in Beckman Hall.
Gerber founded E-Myth Worldwide, a coaching, training, and education firm in 1977. But he’s most famous for the book, The E-Myth Revisited; Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to do About “It. Since its publication 1986, more than 2 million copies have been sold, and it is perennially on Top 10 business book lists.
“Here’s an incredible opportunity to hear from a world-renowned speaker,” said Ben McCulloch, chairman of
Orange County SCORE, a volunteer business counseling group. “His E-Myth books have touched the lives of millions of business readers, in every industry, throughout the world.”
Gerber doesn’t coddle small-business owners. Here’s a sampling of his comments:
“The entrepreneur builds an enterprise; the technician builds a job.”
“Why is it that with all the information available today on how to be successful in small business, so few people really are?”
“If your thinking is sloppy, your business will be sloppy. If you are disorganized, your business will be disorganized. If you are greedy, your employees will be greedy, giving you less and less of themselves and always asking for more.”
“If they don’t fail outright, most businesses fail to fully achieve their potential. That’s because the person who owns the business doesn’t truly know how to build a company that works without him or her.. which is the key.”
