Marc Averitt, co-founder and managing director of Okapi Venture Capital will become the new president of Orange County Venture Group in January 2008.ocvg-logo.jpg

He replaces seasoned venture capitalist Dan Bassett.
“Marc embodies what’s best in the venture capital community and he is the ideal candidate to step up to this leadership role,” said Bassett. “With his dedication, ideas, and direction, there is no doubt that he will help take OCVG to new heights next year.”

OCVG hosts monthly breakfast programs attended by hundreds of people that bring together venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and service providers and get deals done. The organization’s trademark event is VC in the OC, started in 2004, to educate the business community to the active local venture investing community. “Given the history of the organization and its importance to the local venture ecosystem, I’m honored to have been elected to lead this dynamic group and look forward to working with the board and OC start-up community to build on the success of my predecessors,” Averitt said.

The OCVG board of directors for 2008, in addition to Averitt, are: Ellen Bancroft, Dorsey & Whitney LLP; Dan Bassett, 2007 OCVG president; Kevin Covert, Montgomery & Co.; Colleen Edwards, PowerMark; Mike Flynn, Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth; Bruce Hallett, Miramar Venture Partners; Gavin Harty, TriNet; Bonnie Kehe, Comerica Bank; Beau Laskey, Steamboat Ventures; Matt Lawson, Ventana Capital; Randy Lunn, Palomar Ventures; Gregg Marston, Networks in Motion; John Onopchenko, Synergy Life Science Partners; Dave Ryan, Mission Ventures; Ken Salgado, Moss Adams; Richard Shuttleworth, Silicon Valley Bank; Bill Simpson, Paul Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP; Ardelle St. George, St. George & Carnegie; Charles Warden, Versant Ventures.

Board terms are one year.
